"Thanks so much for taking Richard under your wing. I wish we would have met sooner"
- Rachael Colescott -
I want to take a moment to speak on this rubber duck, why you see it sitting in my room, Rachael Colescott, and her son Richard. I'm not one to dwell too much on the past, but this is a story from 2019, that I've been meaning to speak on for a few months now. This kid, Richard, I'd see him during the most random hours at night, hiding in different corners of our apartment complex. He'd never speak, he'd just be watching from a distance with his head low, and his torn hoodie on. One day, with Aster, we caught him watching us again lol. Me being who I am, I called him over to ask what his story was. Kid was super shy, but had a lot of heart. Kinda got on him about his gear, feel me. Beat up shoes, clothes was all dirty, and his hoodie was all torn up. We wanted to better understand his situation, so we asked to meet his folks. To our surprise, his pops was out the picture, and his mom, Rachael, was battling cancer while taking care of her new born. It was what it was, feel me? Couldn't do much, but we wanted to do something.
For the next few months, we pretty much adopted the kid every day after work haha. Introduced him to Jamba Juice, laced him with some new shoes, new hoodie / gear. Laced him, feel me? My youngin. Near the end of this chapter, it was pretty apparent that his mom was losing her battle with cancer. As a result, she had made a decision to move back North, so the little man could be in a healthier environment once it was all said and done. On her last day, she showed up with this rubber duck, and left that message on it for me. So when y'all see me showing love to my youngin, or ever wonder what the rubber duck in my room is about, that's the story. I got nothing but love for the kid, and the life lessons learned during the few months I got to know his mom, will stay with me forever. Those memories are forever. One love kid, you know we got you whenever. And to Rachael, thank you. For everything you did.
